Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill is a great break from our normally busy lives. At the last minute we called and had the opportunity to stay at the Old Ministry's Shop. We never turned on the TV and enjoyed lots of time outside.

Our daughters, Libby and Ellie, climbed trees and collected acorns and pine cones. They blew bubbles and ran in the fields with their sister Sarah. At bedtime we all came upstairs and fell into dreamy sleep on soft beds with crisp sheets and heavy coverlets.

With windows open, we fell asleep to the music of cicadas and awoke to the chatter of squirrels foraging for winter food. My family was refreshed physically and spiritually after our time spent at our own “little house on the prairie.”
